Find An Email Message On Your Computer

Having access to computers and the internet opens up a world of new opportunities from keeping in touch with your family and friends, to shopping and buying anything you'd like online. You can use this access to check on your bank account and even submit feedback about recently purchased items. There are, however, occasional challenges and problems that come along with this access.

Knowing The Basics

The majority of computer and internet users know the basics. They know how to connect to the internet, how to use a search engine and check their email. However, when it comes to being familiar with the intricacies of locating archived or stored information, people sometimes run into a brick wall.

Finding an Old Email Message

We all get messages every day from friends and family. Sometimes we respond, other times we ignore and delete. Unless you delete the message, it stays on your email client for an indefinite amount of time (depending on the rules that your client has laid down). So what happens if you receive a recipe that you want to print out, or directions to a camp that you've stored from the year before, and are unable to find these messages? That's when people run into trouble.

The first thing to do is to see if your email client has a search option. A search option allows you to check into your database for a specific search term. For instance, if you were looking for a recipe from your friend Kate, you may want to type in "Kate". This would pull up all of the emails that Kate has sent to you. If you can't remember who sent the message, you may want to type in the word "recipe".

But what if you can't find the message using the search feature, or if the email client doesn't provide a search feature at all? Then you may want to email the person directly to get the answer to your question. But what if you've lost their address? This is when a directory, or search engine, can come in handy. You can use a directory simply by typing information like their name, city and state into a query box, in order to retrieve their address and contact them.

Retrieving a message from your email client can be easy, or it can be difficult, depending on the client you use and how much you know about searching for old mail. When all else fails, remember that you can just start a new email chain to retrieve the information you are looking for.
